Knox Festival 2024

The annual Knox Festival was held at Wally Tew Reserve in Ferntree Gully.  It is always well attended and this year was no exception.

It was a very successful event, with nearly $750 raised from our efforts.  Thanks to everyone who visited our stall and bought seedlings and produce, or even just dropped in to say hello.  A huge thankyou to all our volunteers who worked so hard preparing for the event and participating on the day. Thanks to Susan, Mike, Carol, John and Jill, Brenda, Richard, Rachel, Chris, Daryl, Bill and Michael.

Our raffle was won by Mel who was really delighted, stating “I never win anything!” when she picked up her prize.

Thanks to Seasol, Ball Australia, Better Herbs and Natives and Scotsburn Nurseries for generously supporting our activities.

We will be celebrating our 40th birthday on Saturday 5th October 2024 so please add this date to your diary.  Planning for the big day has just started but there will be plenty to see and do for the whole family.  Further information will be available as the year unfolds.

If you would like to drop in for a visit and have a look around, the gardens are usually open on Tuesday morning from 9am to 12noon.  We are located at 51 Kleinert Road Boronia.  Further information about KCGS is available on our website www.knoxcommunitygardens.org.au , Facebook @knoxcommunitygardens   or email us [email protected]

Children’s Activity – Potting up Seedlings to take home

We asked one of our volunteers how they found the experience. Thankyou Rachel for sharing your Knox Fest experience with us.

Editor Have you previously helped out at an event like Knox Fest?
RachelYes, I volunteered at the Stringbark Festival last year and the Knox Festival this year.
Editor How did you find the experience?
RachelOn both occasions, it was a great day. Not only did I get to meet other Knox community gardeners and have a chat, but it was also lovely connecting with members of the community about plants and gardening, all while raising money for KCG. The information in the lead up to both festivals, and on the day of the event was well communicated by the KCG committee.
Editor What was the highlight of the event for you?
RachelAt both the Knox Festival and the Stringybark Festival it was a great atmosphere, with so much to see and do. On both occasions members of the public have said they look out for the KCG stall each year, which is really nice knowing there are returning customers!
Editor Did you meet any KCGS members who you did not know?
RachelYes, and it was also good to see some familiar faces as well.
Editor What would you say to other KCGS members who may be a bit reluctant to volunteer at an event like the Knox Festival?
RachelThe KCG events are very well run and it is a lovely way to connect with other gardeners, and raise money for the garden. The shifts are generally a few hours which means that it provides a great opportunity to spend time at the event either before or after the shift, if you wish.
Editor Is there anything else you would like to add?
RachelI hope to meet more Knox Community Gardeners at upcoming events. It really is enjoyable few hours!
